Becoming a Governor

The Governing body are always interested to hear from parents or members of the Community who would like to find out more about becoming a Governor. From time to time vacancies occur and we also have opportunities to become an Associate Member working on a more project based basis. Please speak to any of the Governors or contact us at  governors@downley.bucks.sch.uk if you have:

  • Passion and enthusiasm for education
  • experience, skills and/or expertise that you feel would add value to the Governing Board
  • an enquiring mind and the confidence to ask questions and join in debate
  • the time and flexibility to attend Full Governing Board meetings and Committee meetings, and make visits to school during school hours

School Governance can be an enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding experience and also offers lots of opportunities for personal development. For anyone who has taken a break from work but intends going back at some stage, becoming a school governor is an ideal way to refresh or develop the workplace skills much in demand by employers e.g. teamworking, analysis, problem-solving, implementation, communication. It also offers excellent opportunities for transferable professional development with our governor development plans.
