“Learning, Growing and Succeeding Together”

Phonics Screening - Year 1 & 2

Phonic screening is a test that is a National expectation. It tests the children on their phonic knowledge and gives a score that is measured Nationally. As a school we support the children in this and try to make it fun. This score is used to judge how well they can blend sounds and develop this to become fluent readers. Regular meetings are held to support you in your knowledge of phonics and how you can help.

The teaching of phonics begins as soon as they start school in EYFS. This is undertaken daily and in small groups to support the children.

If a child does not meet the national standard within the test in year one they will be required to resit it in year two.
