'Self Control' - our value for June

What can help us to act with more 'Self Control'? What pushes your 'Yes and No' buttons?

What does Self Control mean to you?

Having willpower. Self-discipline. Conscientiousness. Making the right choices for everyone. Managing your emotions...

You may have heard of the work of Dr Steve Peters in the news recently. He is a consultant psychiatrist and university senior clinical lecturer who is credited with having a hugely positive impact on the 20132 Olympic Cycling Team, who has worked with many top sports people and is currently working with the England Football Team as they prepare for the World Cup.  What isn’t so well known is that his work on Mind Management is now being used in schools with great success.

Click here to see this month's introductory assembly to the value of 'Self Control' where a tiny piece of his work has been shared with KS2 pupils and many staff. Adults and children may find thinking about his recommendations of how we manage our mind very valuable in developing self control for ourselves.  His book is called ‘The Chimp Paradox’ (http://www.chimpparadox.co.uk/).

The assembly also includes lots of films and music for all children to enjoy and to encourage thinking around 'Self Control'. The children particularly enjoyed 'The Marshmallow Test!'
