Assemblies

Our assemblies are very important times of the day for coming together, reflecting on our lives and learning about the world around us. As our school is quite large we only come together on special occasions. Assemblies are mostly conducted in phases: lower phase (Reception - Year 3) and upper phase (Year 4-Year 6). We have an assembly every day and most of our assemblies are held by the headteacher to ensure consistency in messages and continuation of themes.

Monday morning assemblies are our Jigsaw assembly which launches the focus of the week. It enables the whole school team to join together, knowing that we all have a common focus.

Tuesday morning is our chance to have fun and sing a variety of songs. Mrs Holding and Mrs Gutteridge are the experts in this subject and so they are best placed to lead this assembly.

Wednesday morning assemblies provide time for children to think about their play and how they live out the school values at this less structured time of the day. When new equipment is introduced, children agree how to use it safely.

Thursday morning assemblies are a time for us to celebrate achievements outside school, in class and at play. When we reflect on our learning during these assemblies, we are thinking about how we can learn from the example set by others and the progress that has been made rather than the outcome. We also celebrate house points and dojos in this assembly.

Friday morning assemblies are a time to focus on whole school events, world events, inspirational people, different religions and charity work. Sometimes this is led by a class and parents are invited to watch the class perform.

Our assemblies have included:

  • Learning about the beliefs, backgrounds, practices and/or celebrations of different religions and/or cultures: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Black History Month.
  • Exploring different values such as respect, honesty, courage, compassion, equality etc.
  • The work of charities including Children In Need, Wycombe Homeless, Wycombe foodbank, Wycombe Homeless Connection, Shelterbox, NSPCC, Comic and Sport Relief, NSPCC.
  • Celebrating national and international focus days or weeks such as World Peace Day, Anti Bullying Week, Book Week etc
