SEND Reforms 2014

The introduction of the new Children and Families Act in March 2014 has bought about a series of wide-ranging changes to special educational needs and disability services and the way they are presented and allocated to children and young people.

The SEND Code of Practice has now been approved by Parliament and can be downloaded at:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/send-code-of-practice-0-to-25

Buckinghamshire County Council has worked with representatives from health, social care and education, as well as other voluntary and support groups to prepare for the new ways of working ready for implementation from September 2014.

At The Downley School, we want to ensure that all those affected by the changes are kept fully informed.  Please find attached some detailed and up to date information on the SEND reforms and, as always, please do not hesitate to contact our SENDCo, Miss Reddington if you have any questions or concerns.

Information on where the Local Authority’s offer is published

Buckinghamshire County Council, along with all other local authorities, is required to publish information about services they expect to be available in their area for children and young people from birth to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.

This is known as the ‘Local Offer’. The Local Offer outlines all services and support available across health, education, social care and leisure services and will improve choice and transparency for families. For further information about the Buckinghamshire Local Offer please visit:
