Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
The Downley School welcomes all pupils regardless of difference for whom we are deemed to be the most appropriate school. We aim to deliver an inclusive curriculum that embraces all levels of learning and challenge. We have developed a policy for the learning environment that follows the Reggio Emelia approach where all classes incorporate where possible, natural products and limited colour to aid concentration and limit over stimulation. We have a 'no plastic approach' where we use natural products and do not fill all spaces with copied and laminated mass produced resources opting instead for simple resources that the children are familiar with and where possible have created. All areas of the school building are fully accessible to wheelchair users as we have a disabled toilet and changing facilities. The upper floor is accessed via a lift and ramps.
The Downley School follows the guidance of the SEND Code of Practice 2014 and Buckinghamshire Guidelines which uses a graduated approach to the identification, assessment and provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Our SEND Co Ordinator is Ms K Tyrrell who works with us on Wednesday Thursday and Friday.
